Story of our LITTLE “i”

 February 18th, 2021 was one of the most surprising, unexpected, yet greatest days of our lives. Like any NICU family, spending time in the hospital post-labor, worried about your newborn, is an incredibly frightening experience. You constantly wonder if your baby is okay, and you anxiously wait for the moment when you can finally go home and start your new life together. Every labor and NICU story is unique, and I often wish ours had been more "textbook." Thankfully, in recent years, more families have shared their stories, providing reassurance and support to others going through this challenging time.

 Our little "i," Irelyn, was a NICU baby. Although our hospital stay was longer than anticipated, we were blessed that she arrived only six weeks early and stayed for just two weeks. She had trouble breathing on her own at first, but once she could breathe and eat normally, we were on our way home. There was no medical reason for her early arrival, but knowing our now 3 ½-year-old's need to do things on her own time, we figured she was just eager to make her grand entrance and give us a bit of a scare. The nurses and doctors at our hospital worked tirelessly to give us the best care, making sure we felt comfortable throughout the process. They even let us set up a camera so that while we were home with Indy (our oldest), we could still check in on Irelyn in her bassinet.

 When we were finally discharged, we left in tears—tears of joy but also of overwhelming gratitude. We felt so blessed to have the support of such a wonderful staff. It was then we knew that one day, we wanted to give back to NICU families, to bring a smile to their faces and remind them they’re not alone.

Our "Buy One, Give One" campaign is all about spreading warmth and love. Starting now, when you purchase one of our toddler or kids sunglasses, another pair is donated to a newborn in the NICU, waiting to go home, keeping them trendy and protected on their journey home!
